Days Creek boys send Irish to fifth straight loss

DAYS CREEK – The long time south Douglas County rivaly between Riddle and Days Creek was renewed again on Tuesday evening, January 13, as the two teams squared off on the hardwood in a Skyline League battle.
After 32 minutes of intense play the Days Creek Wolves came out on top 64-49 sending Riddle to their fifth straight loss and a 0-3 league mark.
Days Creek got off to a slow start as both teams were a little cold from the floor but the Wolves did edge out the Irish in the first 14-11.
In the second quarter the Wolves exploded on offense as they poured in 29 while holding Riddle to just 16 to take a commanding 43-27 lead at the halfway point.
Days Creek came out in the third hot as Cam Stufflebeam hit on back-to-back three-pointers to open up a 22 point lead but the Irish clawed back into it and actually won the quarter 14-10 cutting the Days Creek lead to just 12 at 53-41 going into the final eight minutes.
In the fourth it was pretty much the same as the third as the Wolves jumped out then Riddle came roaring back before Days Creek settled things down.
The Wolves took the quarter 11-8 to bring the final tally to 64-49.
Leading the way for the Wolves on offense was Xane Hopkins who finished with a game-high 18 points. He also had six assists and six steals.
Stufflebeam was also in double figures with 14 along with grabbing nine boards and six thefts and Trenton Ladd added 10 points.
Leading the Irish charge was Rafael Lopez with 10 points. Solomon Rhea checked in with nine points and Cole Canty added eight.
With the victory the Wolves improved to 9-4 overall and are 2-0 in Skyline League play.
The No. 5 ranked Wolves will host the North Douglas Warriors (1-2 Skyline League) on Friday while Riddle travels to Yoncalla (0-2 Skyline) to take on the Eagles.
