MYRTLE CREEK — The Myrtle Creek City Council on Monday evening, September 15, filled the vacancy on the council with the appointment of Jamie McElmurry.
McElmurry was selected from a pool of three applicants following interviews held during the council meeting.
The two other applicants were Gail Black and Jessica Sharon.
The vacancy on the council came about when then Councilor Luke Dillon was appointed by council to fill the vacant Mayor position. That vacancy was created with the resignation of Matt Hald who moved out of state.
Per the city charter the mayoral vacancy must be filled by the appointment of one of the seated councilors. Dillon came forward as the only councilor interested in the position. thus creating a vacancy on the council. That position was then put out to all registered voters residing in city limits to apply. The results of that call for applicants were the three that were interviewed.
