Lady Wolves hand Riddle another loss

DAYS CREEK – Things didn’t start off well for Days Creek on Tuesday evening, January 13, as they hosted county rival Riddle in a Skyline League tussle but in the end the Wolves found themselves on the top side of a 49-15 victory.
In the first quarter neither team could seem to put the ball in the basket as they fought to a 4-3 Days Creek advantage after the first eight minutes.
In the second quarter Days Creek found their offense as they relied on defense to jump start the scoring.
The Wolves won the quarter 16-2 to take a commanding 20-5 halftime advantage.
In the third quarter Days Creek suffered a significant blow as their standout sophomore post Jazmin Estrada suffered a injury early in the quarter and did not return t5o the game.
The two teams played to a virtual standstill with the Wolves taking the quarter 9-7 to lead 29-12 going into the final eight minutes.
In the fourth quarter the Wolves once again exploded on offense behind Maggie Brown’s 10 points in the quarter. Days Creek scored 20 in the quarter while holding Riddle to just three points on a single basket by Hadley Barnett as they cruised to a 49-15.
Brown finished with a double-double scoring a game-high 21 points while grabbing 12 rebounds. She also had five steals.
Estrada, who scored eight in the first half, finished with 10 points and six steals before being injured.
Freshman standout Clara Crume added eight points as did fellow freshman Mackenzie Davison. Both girls also chipped in with seven rebounds each. Crume also had seven steals.
Leading the way for the Irish was Piper Mitchell who had six points. Barnett and freshman Felicity Jenks each had three points.
With the victory the Wolves improved to 2-0 in Skyline League play while Riddle fell to 0-3.
Days Creek takes to the road on Thursday, January 15, to meet Prospect in a non-league contest before home to take on North Douglas (2-1 Skyline) on Friday night, January 16, while Riddle takes to the road to meet Yoncalla (1-2 Skyline) on Friday.
